Biomedic Intervarsity Representative Meeting

It started in UPM, next UKM and now the 3rd Biomedic Intervarsity Meeting was held at Pharmacy Building, Medicine Faculty of Universiti Malaya. From 2 universities at the beginning, our league of representatives (or should I say League of Biomeds) has grown to 6 universities: UM, UKM, UPM, USM, UIAM and IMU.

Our meeting was held in two sessions. During the morning session, UPM, UKM and UM discussed in detail of the planning for our upcoming joint event in 2010, The Malaysian Symposium on Biomedical Science. For the first time, proper plans and proposals are brought forward on the discussion table, where UKM and UM offered great tentative ideas in addition to what is proposed by host university, UPM. We discussed on obstacles such as funding and publicity, plus agreed the establish committee members for the program by end of June.

During the evening session, UIAM, USM and IMU joined us and we had numerous ice breaking. As USM and IMU were new members in the 'league', the session was more focused on how to bring participating universities together, despite geographical barriers. All of us agreed that the Internet was the greatest mean of communication and establish a forum for voices of biomeds to be heard. At the end of the meeting, an open discussion was held. What started of as a simple voicing of issue related to biomedicine future in Malaysia, turned out to be a moment of experience sharing.

From this sharing, everyone in the meeting had a clear idea of the situation of biomedicine course and its student in each respective universities. Knowing that fact would enable us to understand and help each other, in a constructive manner. Thus, with high hopes bringing all of us closer together as a national entity.

Journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Personally, I'm glad I took that first step in promoting networking among universities.
