For the first time in a long time, the Biomedicine Club of UPM had its first talk about what we would call it as, academic planning after degree. Being held on the 21 January 2009, this academic talk was our first club activity to kick off the year of 2009, and may well be the first student organized activity held in our faculty.
The academic talk was more than just informative chatting, but also sharing experiences from a lecturer's point of view. Dr. Latifah as advisory lecturer and speaker of the talk, shared her ups and downs in her studies during postgrad. She gave information regarding:
1. Important aspects to consider when choosing your postgraduate studies
2. Advantages of postgraduate studies in local or overseas university
3. Advice on how to be self sustainable during postgrad studies through financial aids and scholarships
4. Tips on how to market yourself during interview for scholarships and to prepare yourself for thesis presentation (VIVA)
What was shared and discussed during the talk is more than just awareness alone, but it gives us a sort of enlightenment to what our future might potentially be if we further our studies. Despite the fact that some of Dr. Latifah achievements are rather visionary and seem almost impossible for us, it is not wrong to have an ambitious dream.
Overall, this talk has achieve its primary objectives and participants have shown great response to such activities. It is our choice whether we choose to stay in our comfort zone, or make plans and take action to achieve greater heights in life.
Our upcoming event would be the Career Talk that will be held on the 27 February 2009.
